March 2025 Update

Roselle Park - after a pretty eventful Jan and Feb. I honestly don't have a ton to update you all on, but I'll try and give you a heads-up on a few comings and goings. I'll break it down into a couple of big themes:

Roadwork - There's a bunch of roadwork planned for 2025, but a couple of bigger projects people have been waiting for are coming up this year or are set for funding. This list isn't complete, but the following are some major streets planned for work this year (either completion or construction start). Just a quick flex on this, after we're done with this list we've literally almost paved the entire town since I've been Mayor.

  • Avon
  • Berwyn
  • Clay
  • Hawthorne
  • Henry
  • Laurel
  • Maple
  • Pershing
  • Reindel
  • Rhoda
  • Roosevelt
  • Walnut
  • Warren

Construction - Four big projects are in focus for 2025

  • Boy Scout Park - upgrades should be completed this Spring - we're looking forward to a revitalized area.
  • Fire House Extension - we will look to go out to bid for an extension of Faitoute Fire House to accommodate our new truck coming soon. This will add a fourth bay and office for RPFD.
  • Train Station Renovation - NJTransit will go out to bid for this project in 2025.
  • Acker Park - Sadly the renovation has been delayed due to some last minute design changes, but it's on track to start this year.

Development

  • Senior Housing - We are actively exploring a senior housing project next to "Los Altos" in Westfield Ave. - this would fill a long desired need for 55+/ senior housing in RP. Expect to see a feasibility study on this in the next few weeks - as always these studies will be reviewed at the "Land Use Board" and given to council for approval
  • BOE Building - Same as above - for the borough's part we should soon receive a study on feasibility here - these will be publicly available and you can come comment on this when it's on the agenda at either the Land Use Board meeting - please stay tuned to our FB page or rosellepark.net for dates and times. Also - just to be clear - there will only be any project here should the BOE decide to move/ swap land. The Borough is only responsible for potential zoning should the BOE chose to move down this path. For more info/ background on this please check out my post here.
  • Affordable housing - we're still working with out lawyers to find out our exact requirement on how much we "owe" for our next round of affordable housing - more to come as we work through this with the team. Just a reminder over the next ten years we will have to make room for up to 70 units of affordable housing (we are working to get his number reduced). This is a state requirement.

Anyway that's just a high level forward look on some things to expect in the next few months. A quick preview on finances (I don't want to spoil any surprises), but Councilman Petrosky, Signorello and Lyons are all working right now on the budget in committee and we're looking at yet another very strong budget year - as a reminder since I've been elected we've averaged a little under $100 per house tax increases per year - that's less than half of my predecessors - I expect this years number to be lower than that. From a sewer perspective most residents should see their rates get closer to 2023 numbers than the nightmare that was 2024, but I'll leave most of that good news for another update.

Anyway happy to give you a nice normal, boring government update, like government should be.
